For the Beginner or Returning player. It's great if you already know a few chords or used to play years ago and want to get started again or never played before. I will help you build the foundation of solid guitar skills with best practices. Learn how the hands and guitar work together to make music. We'll study licks, riffs, strumming and picking patterns used by blues, bluegrass, rock and pop guitarists. This class will give you insights on how to listen and learn and practice so you can continue to enjoy playing for years to come. We will even begin to play lead or solo guitar. I will also explain basic concepts of music and how they work on the guitar to help you become musically literate as well as a skilled guitar player. This class is for anyone who feels comfortable with some basic major, minor and 7th chords in common keys (E, A, D, G, C, etc.) and can change accurately enough between them. We will learn the big bad barre chords which allow you to play any chord any place on the guitar fretboard. Our library of licks and riffs will grow to include diverse artists like the Beatles, Jimi Hendrix and Macklemore. We will learn the guitar playing techniques of Past Masters of the Instrument (the Carter Family, Mississippi John Hurt to name but two), the Icons of Acoustic and Electric Guitar (Neil Young, Led Zeppelin, the Ventures and many others) and even the awesome raw power of Heavy Metal and Grunge (Nirvana, Joan Jett, etc.).
